What Are Therapy Intensives?

Therapy intensives are a focused, immersive way to do meaningful healing work in a shorter period of time. Rather than meeting once a week for brief sessions, you and your therapist spend extended time together over a few days or weeks, allowing space for deeper reflection, emotional processing, and real change.

Therapy intensives create breathing room—especially when life feels urgent, heavy, or emotionally complex.

Why Therapy Intensives Work—Especially for Deep, Life-Alteri

When someone is living with serious illness, caregiving stress, grief, or relationship strain, healing often requires more than quick check-ins. Therapy intensives allow us to slow down, stay present, and engage fully in the work. This pairs especially well with the therapeutic approaches I use.

How Therapeutic Approaches Are Used in Intensives

Dignity Therapy

Dignity Therapy is about honoring your story—your values, your identity, and the meaning of your life experiences. In a therapy intensive, we have the time to reflect deeply on what matters most to you, explore legacy and meaning, and affirm your inherent worth, especially in the face of illness or loss.

Extended sessions allow these conversations to unfold naturally, without rushing or interruption.

Meaning-Centered Psychotherapy

Meaning-centered work focuses on helping people connect with purpose, even during suffering or uncertainty. Therapy intensives provide the space to explore big questions like:

  • Who am I now?
  • How do I make sense of what I’m facing?
  • What gives me meaning in this season of life?

Rather than touching lightly on these questions over months, intensives allow for sustained reflection and integration.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT invites us to stop struggling against painful thoughts or emotions and instead respond with compassion and intention. In an intensive, we can:

  • Practice mindfulness skills in real time
  • Identify personal values
  • Build flexibility in how you relate to fear, grief, or uncertainty

Because sessions are closer together, clients often feel these skills “stick” more quickly and translate into daily life sooner.

Gottman Method Couples Therapy

For couples, therapy intensives create a unique opportunity to pause conflict cycles and rebuild connection. Using the Gottman Method, we focus on:

  • Improving communication and emotional attunement
  • Managing conflict without blame or shutdown
  • Strengthening friendship, trust, and shared meaning

Extended sessions allow couples to move beyond crisis management and into deeper understanding and repair.

Why Healing Often Happens Faster in Therapy Intensives

Therapy intensives support healing by:

  • Reducing emotional start-and-stop — You don’t have to “catch up” every week
  • Building trust more quickly — Safety grows when time is uninterrupted
  • Allowing deeper emotional processing — Especially important for grief, illness, and caregiving
  • Supporting integration — Insights are reflected on, practiced, and embodied

This isn’t about rushing healing—it’s about giving it the space it needs.

Who Might Benefit from a Therapy Intensive?

Therapy intensives can be a good fit if you:

  • Are navigating serious illness, terminal illness, or caregiving stress
  • Feel emotionally overwhelmed or stuck
  • Want meaningful progress in a shorter timeframe
  • Prefer depth and focus over long-term weekly therapy
  • Are seeking intentional support during a major life transition

A Compassionate, Intentional Way to Begin (or Deepen) Healin

Therapy intensives offer a different pace—one that respects the weight of what you’re carrying while offering you focused support, clarity, and care. Together, we create a space where healing can unfold with intention, dignity, and meaning.
